Rima Kallingal is infact one of the most talented gift for Malayalam Industry. Rima, has the most 'cosmopolitan look' among the actresses coming from Kerala. It was the Miss Kerala pageant in Kochi, where she was the first runner-up, that got her into the limelight.
Soon, she started doing ads and magazine covers. Famous Malayalam director Lal Jose spotted her on the cover of a popular magazine and invited her for a screen test for his Tamil movie Mazhai Varappoguthu. Though Lal Jose introduced many fresh faces to Malayalam cinema like Meera Nandan (who later migrated to Tamil cinema), his first foray into Tamil cinema never took off. But, Rima got a break in noted director Shyamaprasad's Ritu which made her popular with teenagers. Says director Lal Jose, "Rima has a modern look about her which gelled with today's youth audiences. She is not one of those traditional Kerala girls who wear long skirts or saris. Western costumes fit her and worked to her advantage in creating a modern-girl image."
People who saw her at the Hyderabad award night feel that her "cosmopolitan and upmarket look will be her trump card in Kollywood and Tollywood." In an exclusive interview to CT, Rima says with a smile, "I'm very glamorous in real life. I'm comfortable wearing western clothes in my everyday life. I studied in Bangalore and have graduated in journalism and now my parents have settled down in Thrissur. Malayalam cinema has given me the break and my 'cool image' has been molded out of characters I did in films like Ritu, Kerala Cafe, Happy Husbands and Neelathamara."
Rima has the right attitude, dances well, is sophisticated and a quick learner. I think she has the fire in her to be the next Nayanthara or Asin." Rima, at the moment, is doing Best of Luck where she plays the central character with Mammootty.
Several other projects are assigned by Rima Kallingal. Lets check out her career topping into higher heights and we wish her to come out with a career full of colours. |
