Has Parasite found inspiration from Malayalam or Tamil?

South Korean movie Parasite bagged some of the most prestigious awards at this year’s Oscars. Besides winning the International feature film award (formerly known as the foreign language film award), Parasite also won prizes for Best picture, Best director and Best Original screenplay.

Though Indians have been thrilled to see the Asian presence at the Oscars, there have been some shocking discussions happening in the social media.

According to some, Parasite has similarities with the storylines of two south Indian movies. One is the Tamil movie Minsara Kanna (1999), directed by K S Ravi Kumar with Vijay as the hero. The next is the Malayalam movie Oru Black and White Kudumbam (2009), directed by Shaiju Anthikkad with Jayasurya in the lead.
